Asom Divas observed at Biswanath Chariali, Nagaon

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Dec 2 - The Asom Divas in memory of first Ahom king Chaolung Siu-ka-pha was observed at Biswanath Chariali along with rest of the State today by Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad under the aegis of Maralgaon branch committee in the premises of Maralgaon Namghar in association with Biswanath subdivision committee and Maralgaon village organization.

The meeting was chaired by Chao Pranjal Baruah, president of Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad, Biswanath sub-divisional committee. The meeting was attended by Biswanath MLA Pramod Borthakur and eminent historian Manchao Dr Nityananda Gogoi, Manchao Prabhat Chandra Gogoi, former Principal of Biswanath College, Chao Rajiv Gogoi, Assistant general secretary, Central Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad, Chao Babul Gogoi, central executive member, Manchao Cheniram Gogoi and Manchao Prashant Baruah, advisors, respectively, convener of Biswanath sub-divisional women�s council Nang Nijra Baruah and others.

A Correspondent from Nagaon adds: The newly-formed regional political party � Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) today observed the Asom Divas and paid tributes to the first Ahom king, Chaolung Siu-ka-pha at its district office situated at Nagaon Dhaccapatty area here.

Deba Kumar Bora, the district chief convenor paid tributes to Chaolung Siu-ka-pha by garlanding his portrait.

In his speech, Bora said that the first Ahom king Siu-ka-pha first came to Soumarpeeth in 1228 and was overwhelmed to see the rich biodiversity of the region. Impressed by it, he started the Ahom kingdom in the State and set up a greater Assamese society by bringing all people together irrespective of castes, tribes and religions, Bora said.

Meanwhile, a convenor-level meeting was held at the same venue. Deba Kumar Bora, chief district convenor of AJP presided over the meeting while the State convenor Udipta Narayan Raja graced the occasion as the chief guest. Dr Pradip Mahanta, Pulin Hazarika, Rana Bordoloi, Dr Ajit Goswami, Pankaj Deka, Bipul Saikia, Manu Saikia and many other dignitaries of AJP were present in the meeting.

Earlier, noted physician of the town, Dr Ajit Goswami inaugurated the district office of the newly-formed regional party at Dhaccapatty.
