ASI suspended for outraging modesty of two women

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 19 - Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Satgaon Police Station Mohan Doley, against whom two women have levelled allegations of sexual assault, has been suspended. Doley, who had been absconding after a case was registered against him last night, was arrested from the citys Sixmile area this evening.

The ASI allegedly assaulted these women sexually on different occasions one on September 14 and another on September 15 when they had gone to the police station on different purposes. The first lady in her late thirties had gone to register a case of domestic violence. Another girl had gone to the police station on the night of September 15 after her brother was picked up by the police in connection with a case.

Both the women have alleged that the ASI molested them at the police station.

Following the allegations, Police Commissioner PC Saloi had asked the Noonmati ACP to conduct an inquiry and submit a report immediately.

We conducted an inquiry and prima facie found sufficient evidence against the ASI. The inquiry report has been submitted to the Commissioner, following which he has been placed under suspension. We have also registered a case under Section 354 of IPC (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), ACP Purabi Mazumdar said.

A senior police official said strict departmental action would be taken against the ASI.

There will be no compromise in the case, Commissioner Saloi added.
