ASEB top table after 1st round

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 27 ASEB Sports Club completed the first round in the RG Baruah GSA Super League Football Tournament without losing a match and topped the table with 19 points.

In the last match of the first round at the Nehru Stadium here today, ASEB rode on a solitary goal by Jilendra Brahma in the 56th minute to beat Green Valley Sports Club.

It was a good match as both the teams adopted attacking tactics from the word go. The Green Valley boys were more aggressive and their attackers Ekwueme Alex Amchi, Agha Samson and Sabir Ali kept the ASEB defenders busy most of the time. Tiny striker Apurba Phukan also made the ASEB defenders toil with some good ball control and speed.

Initially the ASEB frontliners were not in good touch as they were in the previous matches. After the barren first session, the ASEB attackers got their act together and started attacking at the opponents fort with some well planned moves.

They finally got the result when Jilendra nodded the ball into the net off a high ball from wing back Lolit Konwar from the right corner. Sanjeeva Rongpi also created some openings but failed to hit the target.

After the first round, ASEB, Sunrise, AP Blues and FCI have grabbed the top four spots respectively and will play for the title. Green Valley, SAI, Dynamo and Town Club, in the bottom half, will play to avoid relegation.

Todays matches (relegation round): Green Valley vs Dynamo; SAI vs GTC.
