ASEB set up summit clash with Oil India

By Sports Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 29 - Former champions ASEB Sports Club set up summit clash with Oil India Football Club in the 66th Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament.

In the exciting second semifinal of the premier football tournament, ASEB defeated fellow GSA Super Division League team FC Green Valley 3-2.

It was again a disappointing show in the Nehru Stadium today as both the local teams had to play in front of empty galleries. The organisers Guwahati Sports Association is holding the semifinals and final under lights with an intention to draw crowd. But their strategy did not click.

ASEB defender Maneswar Musahary hit the back of the net in the sixth minute off a set piece from top of the box (1-0). Akrang Narzary set the ball for Jwambla Brahma who shot home from close range in the 64th minute to make it 2-0.

Trailing 0-2 till the 76th minute, Green Valley made a brilliant comeback and levelled the score line. Victor Sadap narrowed the gap in the 76th minute (2-1) while Michael Lucky fired the equaliser in the 83rd minute.

However, the experienced ASEB team players kept their cool and netted the winning goal in the 89th minute (3-2) to seal the fate of the match.

The final is scheduled to be held on October 2.
