ASEB lift Amba Medhi Trophy

MANGALDAI, Oct 10 - ASEB Sports Club, Guwahati upset defending champions Oil India Football Club, Duliajan 4-3 in sudden death to lift the Amba Medhi Trophy. In the exciting final at the Mangaldai Stadium here today, the Duliajan team distinctly enjoyed territorial supremacy in the first session with a series of moves initiated by Mandila Rongmei and F Wary. However they missed all the scoring opportunities came their way.

But it was the ASEB team which squandered the best scoring opportunity in the first session in the 13th minute when Apurba Phookan shot wide of the target off a through pass from Rahul Das in a point blank situation. In the second half ASEB looked as a different team and kept Oil India FC in the back foot with the attackers kept the ball in the Oil half.

After the regulation time ended in a goalless draw, the tie breaker rule was applied and both the teams netted three goals each in the penalty shoot out. In the sudden death Jwala Brahma of ASEB hit the target while Sunil Murmo�s shot was saved by ASEB custodian Daoga Brahma.

The champions ASEB team collected a cash prize of Rs 30,000 along with the Amba Medhi Trophy while runners up Oil India bagged Ratneswar Kataki Trophy and a cash award of Rs 20,000. Mandila Rongmei of the Oil was awarded the Bidya Medhi Memorial best player trophy while Daoga Brahma of ASEB bagged the Putiram Deka memorial best goal keeper award. After the final Minister Fisheries, Water Resource, Basanta Das , AFA secretary Ankur Dutta, trophy donor Biren Medhi gave away the prizes.
