ASEB edge past NF Rly

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 13 Riding on a first half goal by Dipankar Sarkar, defending champions ASEB Sports Club edged past NF Railway Sports Association in todays match of the RG Baruah Super Division League.

In lacklustre encounter at the Nehru Stadium here, both the teams miserably failed to impress with their performances. It was basically a mid-field affair through out the course as the attackers failed to tear the opponent defence with planned moves. ASEB, however, were marginally better in initiating moves from the middle. But their frontliners could not capitalise the scoring opportunities. Dipankar, Kishan Singh and Chayaram Basumatary were poor in shooting at goal and squandered few opportunities in the later part of the match.

ASEB midfielder Sibra Narzary and defender Maneswar Musahary toiled hard and provided ample support from behind to their attacking line with correct passes. But Railway defenders, led by veteran Janak Basumatary, did a laudable job to spoil almost all the ASEB moves at the premature stage.

For NF Railway, like other days, medio Prasanta Bharali had to shoulder a heavy responsibility throughout the stipulated 90 minutes. He got some support from Dipak Ghatowar and Duleswar Rabha. Their striker Jilendra Brahma also tried a lot to equalise the issue. But his efforts went in vain as the final punches were not accurate.

Dipankar scored the lone goal in the 16th minute with a header off a floater sent by Chayaram from left flank.

City Police down Abutani: City Police earned full points against Abutani Sports Club with a 1-0 victory in the A Division match.

Manoj Ahmed netted the all important goal of the match in the 11th minute.
