By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 24 - Former champions ASEB Sports Club and East Bengal Club won their respective matches of the 64th Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament at the Nehru Stadium here today.

ASEB edged past Bongobir Ogragami FC, Sylhet, Bangladesh 1-0 while in the other match East Bengal trounced Sikkim United FC 2-0.

In a Group B league encounter the all important goal for ASEB SC was scored by Akrang Narzary in the 65th minute.

It was yet another poor show by the Bangaladesh team as they were totally dominated by the local boys through out the course.

The margin could have been much bigger had Sanjoy Boro, Jwambla Brahma, Akrang not missed few easy scoring opportunities. The Bangladesh custodian Sabir Ahmed Soel also made some brilliant saves in both halves.

Akrang today played the role of sheet anchor and made several inroads down the left flank. He almost singlehandedly exposed the Bongobir defence using his speed and dribbling skill.

With todays victory, ASEB team has collected four points from two matches. On the otherhand, the Sylhet team has been eliminated from the championship with two back to back defeats.

The East Bengal-Sikkim match was evenly played at the initial stage but the Kolkata team took control of the situation in the later part and pumped in two goals through Jiten Murmu in the 71st minute and Adeleja in the 84th minute.

East Bengal entered the semifinals with todays win.
