ASEAN ambassadors call on Mizoram Guv

AIZAWL, March 10 - Ambassadors of six ASEAN countries, who visited Mizoram to attend the Chapchar Kut Festival, called on Mizoram Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai on Monday.

After a formal interaction, the Governor hosted a luncheon for the visiting dignitaries at the Banquet Hall of the Raj Bhavan here. The visiting ambassadors included those of Laos, Myanmar, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia and Vietnam.

On behalf of the people of Mizoram, the Governor and his wife, Reetha Sreedharan, expressed gratitude to the guests for visiting the State and interacting with the locals.

The Governor also believed that the visit would foster closer ties between India and the ASEAN countries and bigger activities at the border trade centres in eastern Mizoram.

All the ambassadors shared their experiences of their stay in Mizoram with the Governor during the interaction. They also termed the trip as a culturally enriching experience and an important event in the context of trade viabilities as they consider Mizoram to be India�s frontline State for trade with the ASEAN countries. More cultural exchanges, trade opportunities, the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Programme and other important issues were also discussed in the meeting.

During their visit to the State, the ASEAN ambassadors also met Chief Minister Zoramthanga, held discussions with Chief Secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo and other senior officials, visited the Indo-Myanmar border area in Champhai district and also participated in the Chapchar Kut Festival.
