ASDC slams State govt, KAAC for inaction

By Correspondent

DIPHU, July 12 - Regional party Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) has vehemently criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Assam government and the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) for not being able to resolve the longstanding inter-state border dispute between Assam and Meghalaya.

The ASDC, in a press release signed by Publicity Secretary Chandra Rongphar, alleged that the BJP government has no intention to solve the border issue which is escalating day by day.

It said that a few months back, Assam Police decided to set up a border outpost at Umru-II under Chinthong MAC constituency but the Khasi people of the area immediately informed the authorities. Meghalaya Police arrived at the spot and prevented Assam Police from carrying out the work, saying that the land belongs to Meghalaya.

The press release further stated that people of the area have submitted numerous memorandums to the Superintendent of Police, Hamren regarding the issue.

Besides, Karbi Students Association (KSA) and All Assam Gorkha Students Union (AAGSU) also submitted memorandums on April 9 to the Deputy Commissioner of West Karbi Anglong, saying that people residing in border areas were fighting for their area but the BJP-led Assam government and KAAC have done nothing in this connection, the release said. The ASDC said that if adequate measure are not taken on time, then Karbi Anglong will cease to exist.
