ASDC reiterates demand for CBI probe from 2001

By CORRESPONDENT

HAFLONG, June 23 The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC), Dima Hasao District Committee has reiterated the demand for a CBI probe into the misappropriation of government funds in all departments in Dima Hasao district from the year 2001 to 2009.

The CBI, probe into the financial scam should cover also the persons from outside the district of Dima Hasao as named in the Week in its February 1, 2010 issue including the seven ministers of the Assam Govt, former Governor of Assam Ajay Singh, former deputy commissioner of Dima Hasao district AK Barua, former project director of DRDA, HP Rajkumar, Member of Parliament Dip Gogoi, Member of Legislative Assembly GC Langthasa, former Governors ADC S Jagannathan, Hills Area Development Commissioner Prem Saran, district forest officer Mohammad Jaman, PWD additional chief engineer Kamala Prasad, PHE addl chief engineer, K Saikia, the irrigation executive engineers of northern & southern division of Dima Hasao district and the retired police officers alleged to have been involved in secret killing.

The ASDC Dima Hasao District Committee strongly criticised the Tarun Gogoi led Government for the process of CBI, probe being conducted from the year 2007 to 2009 in Dima Hasao district. As learnt from reliable sources all the files, documents and papers collected from various departments for the CBI probe are alleged to have started surprisingly from the year 2007 to 2009 alone, despite the government's declaration on April 22, 2010 in the media that the CBI probe into misappropriation of governments funds in Dima Hasao district will be conducted from the year 2004 to 2009.

Rathindra Thaosen and Suraj Naiding, president and joint secretary of the Dima Hasao district committee of ASDC in a press release further stated that it was during the previous rule of Congress-I in the council ie from the year 2001 to 2007 the amount involved in misappropriation of government funds were far more larger than the amount involved from 2007 to 2009.

Therefore, when the period of CBI, probe starting particularly from 2004 to 2009 in Dima Hasao District appears to be unjustified and biased, and the Government's decision to conduct the CBI probe starting from 2007 to 2009, which is in process now, into the misappropriation of government funds in the district is a complete farce.
