By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, Aug 15 - Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) member Ajay Kumar Dutta met the parents of the five-month-old infant in Cachar district who was kidnapped and later found killed on August 7.

Accompanied by Superintendent of Police Bhanwar Lal Meena, Dutta interacted with the parents at Kazidahar in Sonai constituency and noted down their plea. He asked the police officials to ensure that stringent punishment is meted out to the arrested culprits involved in the heinous crime.

I have spoken to the parents of the infant and noted their views. This incident is inexplicable and I assured them that the commission is proactive in dealing with cases of violation of child rights, Dutta told The Assam Tribune.

The ASCPCR member, while discussing the ghastly incident with DIG (Southern Range) Dilip Kumar Dey, said steps should be taken to see that such heinous crimes do not surface in future.

The infants must be given adequate protection and police along with society must maintain strict vigilance. The village defence party must be strengthened as well, he said.

Dutta later met ADC Lalita Rangpipi, Social Welfare Officer Shaswati Shome and Protocol Officer cum CDPO Mrinal Kanti Saikia and directed them to keep a close watch on issues related to children like child labour, child trafficking, child marriage and sexual abuse.
