GUWAHATI, July 30 - The Asam Sahitya Sabha, UK chapter (ASSUK) held its 22 nd global virtual annual general meeting (AGM) and Sahitya Sanskriti Divas on July 25.
The ceremony began with �Siro Senehi� song and ASSUK�s secretary, Geeta Borooah welcomed the members and viewers, a press release stated.
Lahori Barthakur , ASSUK�s advisor explained various activities initiated by the body .
ASSUK�s president, Manjira Chowdhury, in her speech, said the event was held for the first time digitally and globally. She introduced Asam Sahitya Sabha president, Kuladhar Saikia and also welcomed Mrinalini Devi, vice-president of Asam Sahitya Sabha (ASS).
Saikia, in his speech, praised all the ASSUK members for organising the meet and their effort towards development of the Assamese language.
ASS vice president, Mrinalini Devi was delighted to join the event and expressed her gratitude to be able to speak in such a courageous organisation, who defied all obstacles of pandemic and organised such a cultural programme.
Lahori Barthakur sang �Ghoxa� to start the cultural programme. People from Ireland, different parts of the UK, Assam and other parts of India joined the programme.
Pari Gogoi, ASSUK�s, deputy treasurer, ended the cultural show with a vote of thanks. She thanked ASS president and vice-president for their support in this new challenge of virtual event. The event ended with the song �O Mor Aponar Desh� sung by Teyesha Dutta.
