Asam Sahitya Sabha to commemorate Bhattadev

BARPETA, Dec 5 - The Asam Sahitya Sabha has decided to observe the death anniversary of Mahapurush Bhattadev, the doyen of Indian prose literature, as the Katha Sahitya Divas. The first ever Katha Sahitya Divas (Prose Literature Day) to be observed by the Asam Sahitya Sabha will be held at Byaskuchi Satra founded by Bhattadeva in Barpeta district on the seventh day of the solar fortnight of the Puh month in the Assamese Almanac, ie., January 1, 2016 next.

It is learnt that a delegate of the Asam Sahitya Sabha had visited Byaskuchi Satra recently and organised a meeting there in collaboration with Bhattadev Milan Samiti in its office. The meeting was presided over by Gajendra Nath Barma, the president of Bhattadev Milan Samiti. A large number of local people including representatives of Byaskuchi Sakha Sahitya Sabha attended the discussion. A reception committee headed by the president and secretary of Bhattadev Milan Samiti was formed for this purpose.

Local people of Byaskuchi are elated over the decision of Asam Sahitya Sabha to observe the day with special significance and thanked the organisation for giving an opportunity to the people of Byaskuchi to organise such an event. Bhattadev Milan Samiti has been celebrating the death anniversary of the great saint and prose writer for a long time with a five to seven day programme.
