Asam Sahitya Sabha starts new projects

JORHAT, April 6 � The Asam Sahitya Sabha, the State�s apex literary body, has decided to implement some important projects for cultural and linguistic development in the State.

It was decided in an executive meeting of the Sabha held at the Chandrakanta Handique Bhawan here on Sunday. It was the first such meeting since Dr Dhrubajyoti Bora has taken charge as president.

With the Assamese translation of the Shakespearean masterpiece Julias Caesar by Prasanta Kumar Bordoloi, the Sabha has launched a mega translation project which will continue for five years.

A historical research project has also been started by the Sabha. All the projects will be conducted by autonomous bodies, said a Sabha office-bearer.

The Sabha has also decided to offer fellowship in collaboration with the Dibrugarh University. It also made the announcement of an editing course that will be conducted in collaboration with the Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University.

�The Sabha has also started a corpus fund of Rs 10 crore. Along with the president, several members have already made donations towards it,� said assistant secretary Samiran Bordoloi.
