AS Bopanna sworn in as CJ of Gauhati HC

GUWAHATI, Oct 29 - Justice Ajjikuttira Somaiah Bopanna was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court today. Governor Jagdish Mukhi administered the oath of office to Justice Bopanna at a function in the presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the Darbur Hall in Raj Bhavan here.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya, judges of Gauhati High Court, members from legal fraternity, Chief Secretary Alok Kumar, DGP Kuladhar Saikia and other senior officials of the State government.

Born on May 20, 1959, Justice Bopanna enrolled as an advocate in 1984 and practised in civil, constitutional, company, service matters in the Karnataka High Court as well as other civil and labour courts, according to his profile on the high court website.

He was appointed as an additional judge of the Karnataka High Court in January 2006 and a permanent judge in March, 2007.
