Arunachal virus cases show declining trend

ITANAGAR, Oct 19 - Coronavirus infections in Arunachal Pradesh showed a sharp decline as the State recorded just 55 fresh cases on Sunday, taking its tally to 13,403.

On the other hand, 237 COVID-19 patients were discharged on the day, taking the total number of recovered cases to 10,552. The State�s virus recovery rate now stands at 78.71 per cent.

Of the new positive cases, Itanagar Capital Complex reported the highest (25), followed by West Siang and Upper Siang (six each), and Changlang (three). Two cases each came from Lower Dibang Valley, West Kameng, Tirap and Tawang, and one each from Shi-Yomi, Namsai, Lohit, Longding, East Kameng, Siang and East Siang.

Forty of the total cases were found to be asymptomatic and 15 symptomatic, as per the bulletin. Of the recovered/discharged cases, Papumpare accounted for 65, followed by Itanagar Capital Complex (52), Changlang (44), West Siang (18) and East Siang (16).

Arunachal Pradesh presently has 2,824 active cases, while 30 people have already died of the infection.

Itanagar Capital Complex, which remained worst-affected by the pandemic, has so far contracted 5,001 COVID-19 cases, including 1,406 active cases, 3,581 discharged and 14 casualties.

Changlang registered 1,085 cases, including 139 active cases, 943 recoveries and three fatalities, while West Siang confirmed 861 cases, including 312 active cases, 548 discharged cases and one death.

The Health Department has tested 2,93,164 samples for COVID-19 and 2,69,846 of them came out negative.

Mourned: Meanwhile, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi has mourned the demise of former Arunachal Pradesh minister and a veteran party leader Tsering Tashi, who breathed his last on Thursday following a prolonged illness.

�I am deeply saddened by the demise of your husband, Tsering Tashi,� he told Tashi�s wife, Sange Lhamu.
