Arunachal to get first space education centre tomorrow

ITANAGAR, Dec 6 - The State�s first Innovation Hub and Space Education Centre (Planetarium), located at the Arunachal Pradesh Science Centre, IG Park here, is set to be inaugurated on December 8.

The new facility, developed by the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) under the Union Ministry of Culture, Kolkata, and the Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science and Technology, Department of Science and Technology, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, has various divisions like Discovery Hall, Innovation Resource Centre and Hall of Fame, Innovation Lab, Design Studio and Space Education Centre (Planetarium).

The Innovation Hub will help engage the young and inquisitive minds in innovative and creative activities. It is expected to serve as a springboard for new ideas and innovation, thus helping the society and economy to face future challenges and meet rising aspirations of the growing population, sources said.

The opening of the Innovation Hub and Space Education Centre coincides with the three-day 18th All India Annual Conference of Heads of Science Centres/Museums commencing on Saturday at the Dorjee Khandu State Convention Centre here, on the theme, �Aligning Science Centre Activities with National Science Promotion Policy and its Agenda�, said Vivek Kumar, curator of the Science Centre.

The objectives of the Innovation Hub are to promote innovation, creativity and engagement in science, foster problem solving ability and project-based learning, provide hands-on/practical learning and engagement in the process of science, technology and innovation, excite young minds about innovation for better future, and help the society and economy to face future challenges in science and technology, the sources added.
