Arunachal students protest Chinese claim

By The Assam Tribune

ITANAGAR, April 11 The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today protested against the recent statement made by China on Arunachal Pradesh and said the state was an integral part of India, reports PTI.

Our state is not a disputed territory, but an integral part of India. We strongly oppose the remark made by Beijing, AAPSU president Kamta Lapung said here.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hu Chunying had recently said that there was a huge dispute with India over Arunachal Pradesh and it was an undeniable fact.

On many occasions we have been protesting such attitude of China and we have nothing to do with Chinese authorities, Lapung added.

North East Students Organisation coordinator Bai Sonam said China had no valid reason to claim any parts of the state. Stapled visas are issued to the Arunachalees because of weakness of the Centre, he said.

Referring to the imposition of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in 12 districts of the state, the student body said it would resort to a series of agitations till the draconian Act was withdrawn.

AFSPA is nothing but a licence to kill innocent people in a peaceful state like Arunachal where not a single insurgent group exists, Lapung said, adding, if the Centre felt insurgents from neighbouring states had sneaked into Arunachal, it could launch a massive army operation instead of imposing AFSPA.
