Arunachal rolls published

By Correspondent

ITANAGAR, Jan 29 The final electoral rolls of 56 out of 60 Assembly constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh have been published on Monday.

After more than three months of rigorous and structured exercise of summary revision (of electoral rolls with January 1, 2014 as the qualifying date), these rolls are available to all stakeholders including citizens, political parties, and others, announced States Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) CB Kumar here today.

The final rolls were to be published on January 6. The delay was due to duplications pointed out by the Election Commission of India.

The CEO said this years electoral rolls, what he describes as mother rolls, are quite significant as both the elections for the two Parliamentary constituencies and 60 Assembly constituencies are scheduled in 2014.

As against 6,92,261 electors on October 1, 2013, the final number of electors stands to 7,04,399 including 3,53,268 males and 3,51,131 females with an overall increase of 1.75 per cent.

Another significant feature of this years rolls is that the women have outnumbered males as electors in as many as eight districts of Arunachal Pradesh Tawang, East Kameng, Papumpare, Lower Subansiri, Upper Subansiri, West Siang, East Siang and Dibang Valley.

Dibang Valley has seen the highest increase of voters at 9.79 per cent, whereas Papum Pare has witnessed a decrease of 1.58 per cent in the number of electors due to duplication, he pointed out.

The remaining four constituencies in Kurung Kumey district are still going through the process of special summary revision. The final date of publication in these four constituencies is January 30, he added.
