ITANAGAR, Sept 11 � With the weather improving today, all the swelling rivers in Arunachal Pradesh started showing a receding trend, even as Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu made an aerial survey of flood-hit Upper Siang district.
Flash flood wrecked havoc in the district claiming eight lives yesterday besides washing out several houses. The district is cut off from rest of the world for last three days due to road blockades at several points.
Khandu released an amount of Rs 20 lakh as immediate relief to the kith and kins of the deceased and for those who sustained injuries.
He assured all possible assistance in bringing back normalcy in the district and directed the Works department to take up restoration work of road communication, water supply and electricity on war footing.
The State Government also requested the Centre to declare the disaster as a national calamity and extend all necessary helps to the fund constraint state.
Khandu had written letters to the PM, UPA Chairperson and other Union ministers in this regard and urged them to send a high level central team to assess the quantum of damage in the nature�s fury. � PTI
