Arunachal reports ninth COVID-19 death

ITANAGAR, Sept 9 - One more person succumbed to COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, pushing the virus death toll to nine.

The State recorded the highest single-day spike of 221 positive cases on Tuesday.

A 41-year-old man with comorbidities, who was being shifted from the General Hospital at Bomdila in West Kameng district to the Dedicated COVID Hospital in Itanagar on Monday evening, had to be taken to a hospital at Jamuguri in Assam when his condition deteriorated on the way and he was declared dead at the hospital, stated State Surveillance Officer (Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme) Dr Lobsang Jampa.

The body was taken back to Bomdila from Jamuguri and cremated by the district administration and medical team on Tuesday by following the SOP, Dr Jampa said. The patient was a diabetic and had been under medication for the last six years, he added.

Meanwhile, with the detection of 221 fresh cases, the number of confirmed cases in the State has gone up to 5,402, according to a bulletin issued by the State Directorate of Health Services here last evening. Currently, Arunachal Pradesh has 1,670 active cases.

Of the new infections, Papum Pare reported 66 cases, Itanagar Capital Complex 60 cases, East Siang 21 cases, West Siang 14 cases, Changlang 11 cases and Lohit 10 cases.

Nine cases were detected in Lower Subansiri, six each in Upper Siang and Lower Dibang Valley, four in Lower Siang, three each in Namsai and East Kameng, two each in Leparada, Kurung Kumey and Tawang, and one each in Tirap and Upper Subansiri.

The bulletin said among the new cases, 43 were symptomatic and 178 asymptomatic.

The State also saw release of 127 patients following their recovery yesterday, raising the number of discharged/recovered cases to 3,723.

Among the total discharged cases, Itanagar Capital Complex accounted for 44 patients, Changlang 22, West Siang 13, Tawang and Lower Siang 12 each, West Kameng 10, Tirap six, Upper Siang and Longding three each, and Lower Dibang Valley and Shi-Yomi one each.
