Arunachal reports 17 fresh cases of COVID-19

ITANAGAR, Dec 16 - Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday registered 17 fresh COVID-19 cases and discharged 21 patients following their recovery. The tally of confirmed virus cases has increased to 16,553 and the recoveries have risen to 16,264. On the contrary, the number of active cases declined to 234, stated a bulletin issued by the State Directorate of Health Services here.

Tawang reported five of the new cases, Changlang and East Siang three each, and Siang, Lohit, West Kameng, Papum Pare, Upper Siang and Tirap detected a single case each.

Among the infected, three are Assam Rifles personnel and one is a military man in West Kameng. It may be mentioned here that the Itanagar Capital Complex did not report a single case during the last 24 hours.

Nine cases have been reported to be asymptomatic and the remaining eight are symptomatic, the bulletin added. The State�s recovery rate has now improved to 98.25 per cent. Fifty-five persons have so far died of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh Police Department has managed to attain the COVID-19-free status, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said.

Taking to Twitter, Khandu wrote: �Arunachal Pradesh Police is now #COVID19 free with 100% recovery. Congratulations to @ArunachalPolice for the success story.�

As many as 883 police personnel were infected with the novel coronavirus over a period of time and all have recuperated now. As many as 283 police personnel and 249 recruits had contracted the disease.

Khandu also expressed the hope that Arunachal Pradesh would become a COVID-19 free State soon. �In coming days we hope Arunachal Pradesh will be 100% #COVIDFree,� he tweeted.
