Arunachal records 283 new cases

ITANAGAR, Sept 25 - Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday recorded 283 fresh cases of COVID-19, taking its tally of confirmed cases to 8,416.

Besides, the State also sent home 168 patients following their recovery from the ailment. With this, the number of recovered cases rose to 6,071.

There are 2,331 active COVID-19 cases in the State, coupled with 14 fatalities, stated a bulletin issued by the Directorate of Health Services here late last evening.

Of the new cases, the Itanagar Capital Complex alone detected 153 infections. Longding reported 26 cases, followed by Tirap (22), Papum Pare (21), Upper Subansiri (11) and East Siang (10). Changlang and Lower Subansiri reported nine cases each, and four each were detected in Lohit and West Siang. Three cases each came from Shi-Yomi and East Kameng, and two each from Upper Siang and Namsai. Pakke Kessang, Siang, Tawang and West Kameng confirmed one case each.

As many as 253 of the total cases were found to be asymptomatic and 30 symptomatic, as per the bulletin.

Police recruits test positive: Altogether 90 newly recruited constables and head constables (Telecom) of Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) undergoing basic training at the Police Training Centre (PTC), Banderdewa, have tested positive for COVID-19.

Following the novel coronavirus outbreak in the campus, their training has been temporarily suspended for two weeks, stated an APP release here.

Those infected are all male recruits belonging to D, E and F companies. Their barracks located in the PTC have been declared as containment zones.

DGP RP Upadhayaya, in a meeting here at the Police Headquarters with IGP (Training) Apur Bitin, asked the in-charge principal of PTC, Dr Hemant Tiwari, and vice principal Techi Hanyir to arrange for required infrastructure so that virtual classes of indoor subjects can be conducted at the PTC. They were also directed to explore the possibilities of conducting remaining outdoor training following social distancing norms.

The DGP also directed the PTC officials to take all precautionary measures in collaboration with the Health Department to prevent further spread of the virus in the PTC campus.
