Arunachal plea for �Hinterland Highway�

ITANAGAR, Sept 29 � Arunachal Pradesh will soon request the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to construct a �Hinterland Highway� to arrest the migration of people from border areas near the Line of Actual Control to urban centres and also to evolve a system for managing and developing border areas.

The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting, headed by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, recently, a statement issued by government spokesman Bamang Felix said. Tuki in his Budget speech recently had announced a number of welfare measures for the people living in the border areas.

Besides providing free rice and salt to the people living in border areas, the State Government will introduce a loan-cum-subsidy scheme for purchase of a medium-size transport vehicle for transportation of essential commodities in the border areas for eligible unemployed youths.

The Chief Minister had also announced to make power available through non-conventional sources of energy to the border villages where power transmission and distribution lines are not laid.

Tuki had also enhanced allocation of funds for the border areas to strengthen infrastructure in health and education as well as to take up construction of porter tracks, suspension bridges and construction of helipads. � PTI
