Arunachal Municipality polls on May 29

ITANAGAR, April 20 - The two Municipal Councils of Arunachal Pradesh � Itanagar and Pasighat � will go to polls on May 29 next to elect new councillors.

Counting of votes will take place on May 31 and results declared on June 7 next. The model code of conduct will come into force from May 1.

This was informed by State Election Commissioner (SEC) Hage Kojeen in a press conference at Itanagar on Friday. The term of both the municipalities is ending on May 31.

Itanagar Municipal Council has 30 wards with a total of 64,799 electorate, while Pasighat Municipality has 12 wards with 9,646 electors.

To a query regarding elections to the Panchayati Raj Institutions, the term of which ends on May 31 as well, Kojeen informed that a letter has been written to the State Government for getting approval to conduct Panchayat elections in the State before May 31. However, the SEC is yet to get the go ahead from the Government.
