ITANAGAR, Nov 29 - The three-day Arunachal Literature Festival, organised by the State Information and Public Relations Department (IPR) in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society, ended today.
Attending the closing ceremony, Arunachal Assembly Speaker Pasang Dorjee Sona stressed on inculcating the reading habit among youngsters. He thanked the writers from India and abroad who came to the festival to inspire young minds.
The Speaker disclosed that the State Assembly would open an e-library and give free access to students, besides building a museum.
Sona also gave away prizes to winners of the on-the-spot painting competition and online essay competition conducted among school and college students as part of the litfest.
Addressing the audience, noted author Jerry Pinto said that reading and listening alone can give productive results. Noted novelist Dhruba Hazarika expressed the hope that people of the State would shine in the field of literature in the years to come.
IPR Director Obang Tayeng and Rajiv Gandhi University assistant professor Jamuna Bini Tadar also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, Pinto deliberated on the topics, �Is fiction a shadow of reality� and �Literature and media�. He also had a conversation with Higio Zarngam on his award-winning books like Em and the Big Hoom, The White Crows, etc.
Vasant Nirgune, who chaired the panel discussion on �Oral Literature Traditions in India�, noted that Arunachal has so many languages and dialects and suggested reading of others� languages and dialects.
Rakesh Bihari chaired the session on �Short Story Reading�. Leila Chudori and Kamal Kumar Tanti also chaired other literary sessions.
