Arunachal Heritage Bill passed

ITANAGAR, July 10 - Arunachal Assembly today passed the Arunachal Pradesh Heritage Bill, 2015 by voice vote.

The Bill, introduced by Research Minister Thangwang Wangham on the opening day of 15-day budget session on Tuesday last, provides for protection and conservation of heritage sites including buildings, artifacts, structures, areas, streets, precincts of historic or cultural or environmental significance and sites of scenic beauty. It also provides for conservation and protection of the area of environmental sensitivity.

Wangham told the House that the State Government would constitute the Arunachal Pradesh Heritage Authority to look after all the heritage sites and monuments in the State.

�Ziro, the Apatani Cultural Landscape in Lower Subansiri district, and Thembang, the settlement of the Monpas, a village within a fortified area under West Kameng district were included in the UNESCO�s tentative list of World Heritage Sites.

Taking part in the discussion, senior BJP member Japu Deru suggested for identification of all heritage sites in the State in consultation with the local people. Laisam Simai suggested for enlisting the Stilwell Road, World War II cemetery near Jairampur in Changlang district.
