Arunachal Guv reviews railway projects

ITANAGAR, June 29 � Arunachal Governor JP Rajkhowa�s efforts to improve the rail services in the State have apparently paid off as the coaches of Naharlagun-Guwahati Inter-City Express have been replaced with brand new coaches, and the coaches of Naharlagun-New Delhi AC Express have also been mostly replaced with new ones. Moreover, catering provision in the Naharlagun railway station has been made and railway staff position strengthened with the posting of the Station Master.

This was divulged by RS Virdi, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) before the Governor who reviewed the railway projects in the State, at Raj Bhawan here today. The GM further informed that cleanliness was being closely monitored and security aspect also taken care of.

While commending the NFR for compliance of his observations, which he took up with Prime Minister and Union Railway Minister, the Governor meanwhile suggested for keeping a quota of seats for the State�s people in the Naharlagun-New Delhi AC Express, particularly during exigencies for both to and fro journeys, and the facility, if provided, should be publicised for the common man. He also suggested for AC First Class to be introduced in the daily Intercity Express between Naharlagun and Guwahati.

Rajkhowa also advised the NFR General Manager to explore viability of running Naharlagun-New Delhi AC Express on daily basis and Inter-City Express twice a day.

Going through the power point presentation given by the GM on upcoming railway projects in the State, Rajkhowa said the projects will not only strengthen the communication sector but also help promote cultural and religious tourism in the State.

On Bogibeel rail-cum-bridge project, the Governor said people of Arunachal are eagerly awaiting early completion of the bridge as it will highly benefit them. He urged the railway officials to expedite the pace of work manifold and ensure its early completion � to which the GM informed that the bridge will be commissioned by June 2017.

The GM after his presentation on the proposed railway projects in the State including the extension of Murkongselek-Pasighat railway line, requested the Governor to fast-track the land acquisition process.

The GM also briefed Governor about the proposed projects including Missamari-Tawang railway line, Pasighat-Tezu-Parasuramkund-Rupai railway project and North Lakhimpur-Aalo-Silapathar project for which survey has been initiated.
