ITANAGAR, Oct 14 - A high-level security meeting co-chaired by Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig Dr BD Mishra (retd) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu at the Raj Bhavan here today, discussed the overall international border security scenario in the State. The meeting was attended by General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Corps, Dimapur, Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita, Arunachal Pradesh DGP RP Upadhyaya, Commissioner to the Governor Dr Sagar Preet Hooda, Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) HGS Dhaliwal, IGP (Law and Order) Chukhu Apa and the ITBP�s NE Frontier HQ (Itanagar) Inspector General Sanjeev Raina.
The meeting was held amid the ongoing India-China border tension in eastern Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control. Arunachal Pradesh shares a 1,080-km border with China in the east, a 440-km border with Myanmar in the east, and a 160-km border with Bhutan in the west. A press release from the Raj Bhavan said that the Governor emphatically stated that safety of every citizen and every inch of land of Arunachal Pradesh is the top priority of the State. �Focus must be to instil a sense of security among the people,� he said.
The Governor called for healthier coordination among the armed forces and the State police for effective results. He also emphasised the need of real-time sharing of information and regular meetings of field officers dealing with border security.
The Governor asked the defence and security officers to prepare a foolproof mechanism to address the issue of insurgency, which has been reported in the peripheral areas of the State. He also asked them to educate the people on the COVID-19 pandemic and encourage the public to wear masks, wash hands frequently and follow social distancing norms.
The Governor also advised the State Government to explore ways to motivate the local youth towards the �Aatmanirbhar Bharat� programme, skill development and entrepreneurship.
Taking part in the discussion, the Chief Minister underscored the priorities of the State Government. He said that protection of the people and their livelihood has been the main concern of the Government, and that it will take all measures to ensure this.
Earlier, the Corps Commander and the DGP briefed the State leaders on the prevailing security situation in the State, including that in the insurgency-infested Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts, which have been declared as disturbed areas under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958.
