Arunachal Guv calls for centres to promote music, dance

ITANAGAR, Feb 12 - Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (retd) called for developing a �song, dance and music centre� in every district of the multi-ethnic State when he met the Union Minister of State (independent charge) for Culture, Dr Mahesh Sharma, in New Delhi on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the Governor told the Union minister that he had toured every district of the State and interacted with students, youth, gaonburahs and the public, and found them very keen on preserving and promoting the indigenous cultural heritage, which is demonstrated by the enthusiasm and passion they have for their songs, dances, music and pantomimes.

The Governor stressed that the song, dance and music centres would provide the youth, elders and future generation a platform to interact, teach and learn the age-old cultural heritage. He stressed that such multipurpose centres would also wean the youth away from unlawful activities and drug abuse.

The Union Minister, on his part, assured the Governor that he would direct his to do the best for Arunachal Pradesh in this regard.
