Arunachal Govt plan to set up cold storages

ITANAGAR, May 21 � The Arunachal Pradesh Government and Indian Railways are jointly planning to establish cold storage facilities in the State to facilitate agriculture and horticulture marketing and food processing.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki during his recent NEC plenary meeting at Delhi had raised the issue of setting up of cold storage facilities, an official communiqu� said here today.

As a follow up measure, a team of officers from Container Corporation of India Limited from the Railway Ministry met the State Chief Secretary recently to have preliminary discussion.

It was observed that three places namely Naharlagun, Ruksin (Pasighat) and Bhalukpong would be ideal for setting up of cold storage facilities due to proximity to the railway head, the communiqu� said.

To begin with, survey and investigation besides preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) would be initiated for setting up of cold storage facilities at Naharlagun, near the railway station.

The State Government would provide land as well as capital subsidy under the Central schemes and construction, while operation and maintenance would remain with the Container Corporation of India.

An MoU in this regard is likely to be finalised in coming months. Director, Trade & Commerce has been nominated as Nodal Officer for the project, it added. � PTI
