Arunachal Governor�s appeal to preserve culture

ITANAGAR, Aug 10 � Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen (Retd) JJ Singh today asked the local youths to embrace modernity without distorting the indigenous tribal culture and traditions. �Stick to your roots and don�t allow modernity to eat up your own culture,� Singh said while addressing the valedictory function of the 4th Northeast Cultural Festival at Naharlagun on Thursday.

The three-day cultural programme was organized by All Arunachal Pradesh Students� Union (AAPSU) jointly with the North East Students� Organisation (NESO).

Advising the participating youth from the seven States of the Northeast, Singh highlighted the importance of one�s culture and identity.

The Governor, who had completed his initial part of service life in Northeast, dwelt at length on the enormous scope for development of tourism, horticulture and agriculture the region offer. Advocating for protection of the pristine environment of the region, Singh urged the youth to preserve flora and fauna.

Conveying his appreciation to AAPSU and NESO for taking initiative in organizing the festival in the State, the Governor termed the event as a platform to unite all the tribal population of the region.
