Arunachal Governor inaugurates Pakke Paga Hornbill Festival

ITANAGAR, Jan 18 - Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (retd) today inaugurated the Pakke Paga Hornbill Festival at Seijosa in Pakke Kessang district bordering Assam.

The three-day Pakke Page Hornbill Festival, held every year in support of wildlife and nature conservation, is focused on conservation of the hornbill, the State bird of Arunachal Pradesh which holds significant cultural value for the Nyishis.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that the objective of the festival is laudable, which promotes and preserves the environment and nature. He called upon the people to conserve and protect the flora and fauna of the State. He advised the people to properly utilise the boon of nature and pass it on to the next generation in a better condition.

The Governor appreciated the elders and leaders of the Nyishi community for their initiative to do away with use of hornbill beaks for their headgear and instead using fibre glass beaks. He observed that this mindset, approach and action is doing yeoman�s service in preserving the State bird.

On the development front, the Governor said that for speedy progress of the State, government officials must meet the people and go to the field to ensure that welfare projects are implemented with transparency, accountability, honesty, continuity, audit and review and mid-course corrections, wherever necessary.

The Governor, while expressing his concern over the problems faced by the people of border villages, shared his initiative to resolve the �contentious issues� between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

Among others, former Deputy Chief Minister Kameng Dolo, local MLA Biyuram Wahge, former MLA Techi Hemu and Everester Anshu Jamshenpa were present in the inaugural function.
