ITANAGAR, April 4 - Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig Dr BD Mishra (retd) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have conveyed their greetings to the people of the State, particularly the Galo community, on the eve of their annual festival, Mopin. The Governor expressed the hope that the festivities would usher in peace and prosperity to the State.
This year, the Mopin festival of the Galo community is not being celebrated at the community level due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
On this festive occasion, which this year we are celebrating within our own homes, I join the whole Galo community in offering prayers to Mopin Ane for grant of wisdom and will to all of us for social distancing to overcome the challenges of the Corona virus disease, the Governor said.
In our joint endeavour to defeat the spread of COVID-19, I appreciate the people of the State for deferring the collective celebration of Mopin festival. Let us take all precautions in letter and spirit and stay at home to avoid Corona virus infection, the Governor said in his message.
Wishing that the festival brings in a bountiful harvest and good health to the people, Chief Minister Khandu said it was a trying time for entire mankind, but hoped that the prayers offered during the festival would help tide over the pandemic. We are going through trying times due to the exponential spread of COVID-19. This Mopin lets pray for well-being of all sentient beings, Khandu said.
We know this time the celebrations wouldnt be as grand as before, nevertheless it doesnt take away the significance of Mopin in our lives. Lets celebrate it in a manner that we leave no space for the virus to spread. Coming few weeks are very crucial for us. Lets help each other to break the chain of its propagation. Happy Mopin to all! Khandu added in his message here this evening.
