Arunachal gets green tourist destination award

ITANAGAR, Nov 18 - Arunachal Pradesh has been awarded the �Best Emerging Green Tourist Destination Award� by Travel & Leisure magazine.

Bollywood actress Dia Mirza presented the award at an event held at ITC Maurya, New Delhi on November 15.

Dia Mirza recounted her fond memories when she visited Arunachal Pradesh, and expressed her strong desire to visit the state once again, and also mentioned the sustainable tourism being promoted in Arunachal Pradesh.

A press release issued by Adong Moyong, resident tourism officer at Arunachal Bhawan in New Delhi, said, �Arunachal Pradesh is one of the last �Truly Unexplored� destinations in the world which offers an awe-inspiring experience to the discerning tourist. The award is a boost to the efforts of the Tourism department in bringing Arunachal Pradesh prosperity through sustainable tourism.�

The awards were given to Tourism departments and stakeholders in recognition of their efforts towards promoting green tourism. The winners were decided through an online poll by the magazine in which the readers expressed their opinion, it added.
