ITANAGAR, Sep 1 - The flood situation continued to remain grim in Arunachal Pradesh with rising waters of major rivers in several districts inundating fresh areas, thus forcing the administration to evacuate people to safer places.
The affected districts include Lohit, Namsai, Lower Dibang Valley, Kurung Kumey, Lower Dibang Valley and East Siang while Anjaw was cut off from the rest of the country due to rain-triggered landslides.
At least 34 houses were washed away by Dibang river at two villages in Dambuk sub-division of Lower Dibang Valley district, Additional DC Atul Tayeng said.
Two persons are believed to have been washed away by Bete river in Chambang in Kurung Kumey district on August 29.
Five circles of Kurung-Kumey including district headquarters Koloriang, remained cut off from the rest of the country following a landslide between Sangram and Leel on Joram-Koloriang BRTF road.
Several landslides were reported between Parsuram Kund and Tezu in Lohit district. Anjaw remained cut off due to heavy mudslides at Tiding point, an official said, adding, restoration work was affected due to bad weather.
A report from Lower Dibang Valley informed that the flood situation at Paglam Circle was grim with water level rising everyday due to continuous heavy rainfall.
Rubber boats were being used to evacuate people to safer places at Paglam, officials said, adding, road connectivity was snapped at several places.
According to a report from East Siang, heavy rains resulted in flood as the gushing water destroyed standing crops in hundreds of acres of cultivated land in Mer, Gadum, Namsing in Mebo Subdivision and Berung and several locations in the district headquarters. � PTI
