Arunachal dist remains cut off

By The Assam Tribune

ITANAGAR, May 29 - Anjaw district bordering China has remained cut off from the rest of the country since May 24 following landslides at several places, triggered by incessant rains, a senior official of the district said.

Surface communication with the district has come to a standstill after several stretches of the highway connecting it with the rest of the State were washed away following landslides, Anjaw DC Dagbom Riba said.

Efforts are on to restore the road connectivity and Riba said the restoration works would be completed by Saturday if it is not hindered by inclement weather. A 67-km stretch of the road from Tezu township in neighbouring Lohit district to the Tiding river has been cleared by the Dimwe-based 48th Border Roads Task Force (BRTF).

Another stretch of the road beyond Hayuliang, which is being maintained by the 116 Road Construction Company of the BRTF, has also been cleared, the DC said, adding that the district has already arranged adequate stock of foodgrains for two months. PTI
