DIPHU, Nov 28 A 60-member official delegation from West Kameng and Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh arrived recently at Diphu on a two-day tour to study the functioning and constitution of Karbi Anglong autonomous district under the 6th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

Tichowang Dundup, MLA, Tawang district and the director of Cultural Affairs TG Rimboth led the 60-member group of bureaucrats and public representatives of various capacities from the two localities.

While addressing the media at a dinner hoisted by the KAAC CEM, Joyram Engleng, at his official residence, Tichowang Dundup said, We are visiting this place essentially to learn the basics of autonomous council and its functioning under the provisions of the Indian Constitution. We know that this council is the oldest institution of its kind in northeast India established in 1952 for preserving and propagating the interest of certain hill tribes who are enlisted as 6th Schedule hill tribes, as we are also planning to propose similar constitutional status for the two districts of our State.

We have learnt a great deal about the system of functioning of the autonomous council and its revenue system. We have been given a first hand information about the administrative process and funding method of the council by the CEM and executive member Jiban Pathak and veteran legislative secretary of Karbi council Rup Sing Tisso. Now we have a lucid idea about autonomous council, said TG Rimboth.

The whole delegation was received with Karbi traditional shawl and other mementos by the council officials in the conference hall of the KAAC secretariat on their arrival for conference.
