Arunachal COVID-19 tally crosses 8000 mark

ITANAGAR, Sept 24 - The COVID-19 caseload of Arunachal Pradesh surged past the 8000 mark on Wednesday with the detection of 289 new positive cases � the highest single-day spike in infections.

With this, the State�s virus tally mounted to 8,133. On the contrary, 125 patients have recuperated from the disease and been discharged from various hospitals, pushing the number of recoveries to 5,903. The recovery rate now stands at 72.58 per cent.

The State has currently 2,216 active cases, coupled with 14 casualties, according to a bulletin issued by the State Directorate of Health Services here.

Of the fresh cases, the Itanagar Capital Complex alone accounted for 173. Changlang reported 17 cases with six of them being Assam Rifles personnel, while East Siang recorded 13 cases, including 10 GREF personnel and one IR Bn jawan.

Papum Pare and Pakke Kessang detected nine cases each, while Namsai, Lohit and West Siang confirmed eight cases each and Upper Subansiri seven.

Six cases each came from Anjaw, Longding, Upper Siang and West Kameng. Five cases were reported from Lower Dibang Valley. Lower Siang and Kra Daadi confirmed two cases each, while one case each was recorded in Tawang, Tirap, East Kameng and Siang.

Among the new cases, 268 were found to be asymptomatic and 21 symptomatic, the bulletin added.
