Arunachal COVID-19 death toll reaches 10

ITANAGAR, Sept 12 - The death toll due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Arunachal Pradesh reached the double-digit mark with the expiry of a 38-year-old woman at the Dedicated COVID-19 Hospital (DCH) at Chimpu near here.

State Surveillance Officer Dr Lobsang Jampa stated that the non-APST woman died of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) with COVID-19 infection at the DCH, Chimpu, on Friday.

She had tested positive on Sunday last and was shifted from the Midpu (Doimukh)-based Dedicated COVID Health Centre to the DCH on Thursday night in a critical condition. She breathed her last at 2.15 am, Dr Jampa said. With this, the total number of casualties due to COVID-19 related complications in the State has risen to 10.

A mother of two, the deceased worked as a sanitary assistant at the RK Mission Hospital, Itanagar.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh continued to witness a spike in COVID-19 cases with the detection of 154 fresh infections on Friday, taking its tally of confirmed cases to 5,825.

The State also saw 121 recoveries during the same period, pushing the number of discharged cases to 4,126. The State�s COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 70.83 per cent, while the active cases are 1,689, according to a bulletin issued by the State Directorate of Health Services here late last evening.

Of the new cases, the Itanagar Capital Complex remained the most affected region with 70 infections, including 26 cases reported from the Banderdewa check gate, 14 each from the TRIHMS, Naharlagun, and the RKMH, Itanagar, 13 from a paid quarantine testing centre at Itanagar and three from the Itanagar Zoo area.

Papum Pare recorded 18 cases, East Siang and West Siang detected 10 cases each, Lower Subansiri nine cases, Changlang six and Leparada registered five.

Kurung Kumey, Lower Dibang Valley and Upper Siang got four new cases each, while two each were found in Lower Siang and Lohit. Two cases each came from Upper Subansiri and East Kameng, and one case each was registered in Namsai, Tawang, West Kameng and Siang.

Thirty-five of the total cases were found to be symptomatic and 119 are asymptomatic, as per the bulletin.

Among the 121 positive cases discharged on the day, Itanagar Capital Complex was on top with 33 recoveries. Papum Pare came second with 24 cured cases, followed by Leparada (18), West Siang (14) and West Kameng (12).

Six recovered patients were released in East Siang, five in Tawang and three in East Kameng. Pakke-Kessang, Upper Siang and Changlang discharged two cases each.
