Arunachal CM urges AAI to complete Hollongi airport by 2022

ITANAGAR, Aug 6 - Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu today held a review meeting with officers of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to expedite works on the Greenfield Airport at Hollongi here. The airport is capable of accommodating A320 aircraft.

The foundation stone of the Hollongi airport was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February, 2019.

During the meeting, also attended by State Civil Aviation Minister Nakap Nalo, the Chief Minister urged the AAI to continue the works on a war footing to complete the airport project by 2022.

Khandu said that the project once completed, would facilitate the much needed air connectivity to the State capital. He assured the AAI of all cooperation from the State Government for smooth progress of works, a CMO release stated.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also reviewed the status of all completed, ongoing and proposed road projects in the State. He took stock of the works on the Itanagar-Naharlagun stretch of the four-lane highway as well as the status of all sectoral roads in and around the State capital. He directed the department concerned to expedite works on the four-lane highway.

The Chief Minister also assessed the extent of damage caused to roads due to the recent floods, and the sectoral roads in the Itanagar Capital Region damaged by rain-induced landslides.

Khandu asked the Works Department to immediately restore all sectoral roads in the capital region, and develop cost-effective methods to minimise damage of roads due to landslides. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein also attended the review meet.
