Arunachal can produce 40,000 MW of hydropower: Dy CM

ITANAGAR, Jan 11 - Arunachal Pradesh has a huge hydropower resource potential and it can produce up to 40,000 MW of hydropower, said Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein today. We must tap these resources by developing large and small hydroelectric projects, wherever feasible, he observed.

Highlighting the hydropower projects cleared by the Government of India including the 2800-MW Dibang Multipurpose Project and 1750-MW Lower Demwe Hydroelectric Project, Mein said that after completion, these projects would generate huge revenue that can make the State self-reliant.

The Deputy Chief Minister also revealed that an amount of Rs 10 crore was earmarked in the budget of 2019-20 for strengthening of the transmission and distribution system for downstream missing links of 33-KV and 11-KV lines to connect with the infrastructure created, so that the power generated is not wasted and is supplied to power-deficient places through feeding of excess power to the grid.

Mein was addressing a meeting after launching a small hydroelectric project the 6 (3x2) MW Siru HEP at Goli Balek under the Kamba circle in West Siang district today.

The Siru HEP will cater to the power needs of Kamba and Aalo towns, and its surrounding villages. The excess power generated will be injected into the power grid.

Those present during the launch of the small hydel project were local MLA Nyamar Karbak, former minister Lijum Ronya, Hydropower Development (Eastern Zone) Chief Engineer A Ketan, West Siang DC Swetika Sachan, SP Jummar Basar and SE (Power) Modam Jini.
