Arunachal Cabinet okays Bill to protect doctors

ITANAGAR, June 28 - The Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet, in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu today, discussed major issues and took some important decisions concerning the development of the State.

The Cabinet approved of the Arunachal Pradesh Protection of Medical Service Personnel and Medical Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss of Property) Bill, 2019, to check incidents of violence against medical personnel and medical institutions in the State.

The Arunachal Pradesh branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has welcomed the Khandu Cabinet�s �historic� decision to clear the long-pending Bill.

Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet also cleared some other important Bills, including the Arunachal Pradesh State Higher Education Council Bill 2019, the Arunachal Pradesh Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill 2019, the Arunachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Bill 2019 and the Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill 2019.

These Bills will be tabled in the ensuing Budget Session of the Assembly beginning on July 8, according to a press statement issued by the Chief Minister�s Office here.

The Council of Ministers also approved of the proposal for granting special remission to prisoners of specific categories and their release as part of commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

While observing that the sports stadiums in the State are being used randomly for other purposes instead of sports activities, the Cabinet approved of regulations in the use of sports stadiums.

�This step would be a great boon to medical fraternity to carry out their duties without fear and serve in building a better doctor-patient relationship in the State,� stated the State branch of IMA in a release here.
