Arunachal Budget session begins

ITANAGAR, Mar 4 � The Budget Session of Arunachal Assembly commenced with the Governor�s customary address to the House here yesterday.

On March 18 Finance Minister Setong Sena will present the Budget for the year 2011-12.

In his 55-minute-long address, Governor Gen (Retd) J J Singh highlighted the achievements of the State Government and its priority areas towards achieving the goal of �an era of peace, prosperity and all-round development in Arunachal Pradesh�.

Heaping praise on Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu-led Congress Government in the State, the Governor told the House, �Inspite of various constraints, the 17-month-old Khandu Government has achieved perceptible development in all fronts.�

Gen Singh said with health, education and social security sectors remaining its priority areas, the government is according top priority to the optimum exploitation of available water resources in the State for power generation to meet the electricity needs and generate employment opportunities for the locals.

With NEEPCO�s first unit (250 MW) of 600 MW Kameng Project targeted to be commissioned by December 2012 and the entire project by 2013, 110 MW Pare project by August 2013 and NHPC�s 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower hydro electric project by December 2013, by the end of 12th Plan, the State is likely to add about 12,081.90 MW of hydro power and its projected annual revenue earning will be Rs 1,905 crore.
