Arunachal BJP chief rules out early Assembly polls

By CORRESPONDENT

ITANAGAR, Aug 30 - Asserting that there was no possibility of early elections in the hill State, Arunachal Pradesh BJP president Tapir Gao said the State Assembly polls would be held along with the Parliamentary election as scheduled in 2019.

I can assure you that there is no chance of early elections in the State. The Assembly election will be held together with the Lok Sabha election in 2019, Gao told reporters after a BJP legislature party meeting held here on Wednesday.

Asked whether the saffron party was going to give tickets to tainted leaders facing corruption charges, the BJP president said in a lighter vein: I will give you the reply after six months.

He, however, appreciated the Pema Khandu-led BJP Government for taking action against corrupt officers involved in the Trans-Arunachal Highway (TAH) compensation scam as well as the fund-for-job scam in the Itanagar Municipal Council.

To another query, Gao said the party does not have any electoral alliance with the National Peoples Party (NPP) and so the question of the NPP joining the ruling dispensation does not arise. He, however, said that the NPP is a constituent of the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA).
