Arun Dey passes away

DIBRUGARH, May 26 � Assam�s first badminton champion, Arun Dey (81) passed away at his residence in KP Road here yesterday after protracted illness. Dey was ranked No.1 champion in State Badminton Championship held at Sivasagar in 1957.

Till his death, Dey was one of the executive members of Dibrugarh District Sports Association (DDSA) and chairman of the Badminton Sub Committee. He leaves behind his daughter, son-in law and a grandchild.

The last rites to the shuttler champion were performed at Chowkidinghee crematorium late evening yesterday. Several members from DDSA, Milanjyoti Sangha, Jeuti Morol Sangha, Dibrugarh District Throw Ball Association, Dibrugarh District Handball Association, Assam Badminton Association and other organizations mourned at his death as they paid their last respect to the departed soul.
