Artist�s bid to popularise miniature art works

GUWAHATI, May 13 � Giving a new impetus to miniature art works, young artist Sujit Das who has set world record by creating a durga idol measuring one inch on a piece of chalk is concentrating on popularising his art amongst the budding artists in the State.

Sujit who since childhood has been playing with colours and brush said that creating miniature works of art is quite a challenging task for an artist as apart from skill it demands a lot of concentration.

�I enjoy doing miniature art works as it is different and easily catches the attention of the people,� said Sujit.

It needs to be mentioned here that the durga idol created by Sujit has been recognized as the smallest durga idol in the world by Everest World Records, World Amazing Records, Georgian Records Federation etc. He has submitted all his documents for another five world records including Guinness World Records.

�Now I am imparting my expertise to the young boys and girls telling them that apart from the conventional art works they should also try their hand at something different,� said Sujit observing that the satisfaction derived from doing something unusual is incomparable.

According to Sujit, people of the State are gradually taking interest in miniature art works but there is still a long way to go. This artist who hails from Nagaon has a leaning towards creating images of eminent personalities on chalk.

�Though I love to experiment with themes, I love to do images of individuals who have contributed towards the betterment of society,� said Sujit. He has created images of personalities like Swami Vivekananda, Barak Obama, Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr Bhupen Hazarika and many others, all on one inch chalk.

�I believe that artists have a responsibility towards the society,� said Sujit. He never hesitates to extend a helping hand towards the distressed.
