Artiste Ajit Kumar Dutta passes away

NAGAON, April 21 � Ajit Kumar Dutta, a devoted classical musician died in a local nursing home here last night.

He had graduated from Bhatkhande Sangeet Mahavidyalaya. He had received the first prize in national-level music competition held in Lucknow organised by Sarba Bharatiya Shilpi Samaj during his initial years in music.

He was associated with eminent musicians of the State like Tarikuddin Ahmed, Ikramul Mazid, Malin Bora, Bibekananda Bhattacharjyya, Palit Chandra Bora and others

His performances on gajal, thumri and bhajan will remain in the hearts and minds of music lovers

An artiste pension holder, Ajit Kumar Dutta was conferred with Sangeetjyoti title a few years back.

During the fag end of his life he was associated Radial Music School. A number of his students including Queen Das, Rita Bora, Mitali Banerjee, Runjun Phukan and others are today established in the field of music

He was 79 and is survived by wife and two sons.

His body was taken to Radial Club and some other organizations where floral tributes were paid. His last rites was performed at the Sivasthan cremation ground here today.
