Artist Village, Udalguri fetes Rabiram Brahma

UDALGURI, Feb 29 - The Artist Village, Udalguri recently felicitated Rabiram Brahma, founder of the art institution and an international figure of art for winning the Pranab Barua Art Award, 2015. The prestigious award was presented to him at a function at the Vivekananda Kendra, Guwahati on February 22.

Expressing their happiness, the students and teachers of the art institution here said that Brahma was given due recognition for his creativity.

It is to be noted that Brahma has been honoured with a number of awards like the Tribal Folk and Culture Award by the Department of Culture, Government of India, Dr Bhupen Hazarika Award by the Golaghat district unit of the AASU, Nileswar Brhama Award by the BTC authority and the Bishnu Rabha Award by the Government of Assam, while exhibitions of his art works had been organised in various parts of Assam, besides in New Delhi and Mumbai. His works were also exhibited at the Universatair International de Paris in 2008.

Meanwhile, the Udalguri district committees of the ABSU and Aranya Suraksha Samiti and the Udalguri Kavi Samaj have congratulated Brahma on being conferred the prestigious art award that carries a plaque, a citation and Rs 25,000. Brahma is the fourteenth recipient of the Pranab Barua Award instituted way back in 2002 which is being presented to artists of Northeast India every year for their outstanding contribution in the field of art and sculpture by the Pranab Barua Art Award Committee.
