GUWAHATI, June 21 The Assam Apex Weavers and Artisans Co-operative Federation (ARTFED) Limiteds Board of Directors has alleged that many schemes of the federation were affected adversely due to the apathetic attitude of the State government.

Addressing the media here, Artfed chairman Dinesh Deka alleged that the State government was more inclined towards political appointments in the board of directors than the development of the poor and middle income group artisans of the State. All initiatives for the socio-economic uplift of the artisans have been adversely affected due to lack of financial and other necessary support from the government, he added.

The much-awaited yarn bank project being set up in 11 districts of the State in the first phase has also been affected due to this, alleged the vice chairman of Artfed board of directors PL Goswami and its general manager MC Deka.

The Board of directors is a democratically elected body working towards the overall development of the handloom and handicraft products. The government should extend full co-operation to the federation, added Deka.
